Tether Gold Holdings Rise 9.5% in Q2 as Demand for Tokenized Gold Remains Strong Through Market Volatility

3 August 2026 – Tether Gold (XAU₮), the world’s largest tokenized gold product by market capitalization, continued its momentum in the second quarter of 2026 as holdings increased 9.5%, reflecting growing demand for direct, fully backed exposure to physical gold.

Even as gold prices fell 14.1% during the quarter, token holders continued to buy XAU₮. This shows that demand for XAU₮ is not limited to periods when gold prices are rising. Buyers also used the correction as an opportunity to add fully backed physical gold to their holdings.

Gold closed the quarter at US$4,008.02 per ounce, holding above US$4,000 as broader market forces, including a stronger US dollar and shifting inflation expectations, moved prices from their Q1 highs.

As of 30 June 2026 at 11:59 PM UTC, the Management of TG Commodities, S.A. de C.V., an El Salvador Sociedad Anónima de Capital Variable and a registered Stablecoin Issuer and Digital Asset Service Provider under El Salvador’s Digital Asset Issuance Law, confirms the following:

Key Metrics at the End of Q2 2026

  • Total Physical Gold Reserves: 707,747.139 fine troy ounces
  • Gold Backing: 1:1, with each XAU₮ token backed by at least one fine troy ounce of physical gold
  • Total Gold Reserves Held: Approximately 22.01 metric tonnes
  • Total Market Value: Approximately US$2.837 billion
  • Tokens Sold: 612,823.660000 XAU₮
  • Tokens Available for Sale: 94,923.430000 XAU₮

The physical gold reserves backing XAU₮ remained unchanged throughout the quarter at 707,747.139 fine troy ounces, equivalent to approximately 22.01 tonnes. Full 1:1 backing was maintained at all times, with at least one fine troy ounce of physical gold held in reserve for every XAU₮ token in circulation.

The reserves comprise 1,759 London Good Delivery bars weighing approximately 12.5 kilograms each, together with smaller-denomination bars, all vaulted in Switzerland. At the end of Q1, 559,598.640000 XAU₮ had been sold to customers. That figure increased to 612,823.660000 XAU₮ by the end of Q2, meaning 53,225.020000 additional tokens moved from available inventory into holdings during the quarter. Customer holdings therefore increased by approximately 9.5%, representing ownership of an additional 1.66 tonnes of the physical gold already held in reserve.

With a total market value of approximately US$2.837 billion at quarter end, Tether Gold is the largest and most used digital gold product, fully backed by physical gold reserves, underlining XAU₮’s strength and resilience.

“Q2 offered a clear test of the underlying demand for Tether Gold,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. “Gold experienced its sharpest quarterly correction in 13 years, yet token holders continued to accumulate XAU₮. Customer holdings increased by 9.5%, with more than 53,000 tokens moving into token holders’ hands. Holders of Tether Gold are not only buying XAU₮ when the price of gold is rising. They are using periods of market weakness to increase their ownership of physical gold through a product that is fully backed, transparent, portable, and accessible on-chain. That is a powerful signal of the expanding role tokenized gold can play in the global financial system.”

Tether Gold remains at the forefront of the tokenized real-world asset market through strict 1:1 physical backing, Swiss-vaulted reserves, regulated issuance under El Salvador’s Digital Asset Issuance Law, and on-chain transparency. XAU₮ provides token holders with exposure to physical gold ownership while preserving liquidity, portability, and verifiability.

Separately, Tether International SA de CV purchased approximately 27.1 tonnes of gold during the first half ending June 2026, averaging 4.5 tonnes per month. If Tether International SA de CV were included alongside central banks in the country rankings, with approximately 150 tonnes, that would place it third globally over the period, behind Poland and China and ahead of Kazakhstan.
